Lee Hilts—Executive Director

My journey started in sunny Southern California, where I lived for all but one year until I graduated from high school. That lone year was spent in North Carolina as my parents brought my two sisters and I on a “working vacation” to explore the East Coast. During our time in NC, I discovered Carolina basketball and when it came time to choose a college, I rejoined my Tar Heels and enjoyed a wonderful college experience at UNC.
Two weeks into school, I was invited to ride along on a downtown “Krispy Kreme run”. While the doughnuts were good, the real treat on that trip was spending an hour in the car with Sarah, a fellow freshman who grew up in Raleigh. She quickly became my best friend and we were married in January of 1996. Our marriage continues to be a blessing in my life and she spurs me on run a better race than I ever could run alone. We have two children (Andrew and Jane) and each day I enjoy seeing their gifts and watching them grow into the people God made them to be.
After college, I took my Biology degree and used it in the obvious place: the telecommunications and retail industries! In various positions over the past 15 years, I was able to develop many business skills that are very useful in my job here; process implementation, strategic planning, goal setting, IT infrastructure, and project management. I love the opportunity to bring business skills and organization into a setting where the business plan is timeless and the profits are eternal.
My walk with God grew out of the seeds of parents who loved the Lord and served faithfully in the life of their church. I have been blessed with a variety of strong Christian communities that nurtured that faith and allowed me opportunities to serve the body of Christ with my gifts. In 2003, my wife and I began attending Church of the Apostles and have appreciated the combination of Biblical teaching, participatory worship, and opportunity to celebrate Communion each week
If you are looking for me outside of the office, you are most likely to find me teaching Sunday School or Kids Time; enjoying the beauty of God’s creation through a hike or gardening; cheering on the Tar Heels; or playing German-style board games with family and friends.
