I was born in Norfolk, Va and my family moved to Raleigh before I could say my first words. Our first house was located in Quail Hollow which is a hop and a skip from the current location of Church of the Apostles. At age 7 we moved out to “the country”, a neighborhood at the corner of 540/Falls of Neuse Rd. Yes, then it seemed like the country! My sister and I attended the nearby school and church, Ravenscroft and St. Andrews Pres. I have wonderful memories of growing up in Raleigh; spending time with family at the beach, nearby lakes, our summer pool, playing school sports, and making wonderful friends. I find it a huge blessing to worship alongside many of these childhood friends here at COTA.
I first learned about Jesus through my parents when I was a child, but I didn’t really understand the gospel until I attended a Christian summer camp in middle school, The Vineyard. Still, the truth of following Christ with my life didn’t resonate until I went to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) leadership camp when I was 16. It was there that I was challenged to daily seek the Lord and choose to follow him.
I spent my collegiate years at the beautiful UNC-Chapel Hill, receiving a BA in Communications and Religious Studies. Immediately as a freshman I became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ, which was the best decision I’ve ever made since I met my best friend and husband at that picnic! I have the fondest memories of my time at UNC as a student, doing college ministry, and making life-long friends.
After graduation I went up to Falls Church, VA, near DC, and participated in the Falls Church Fellows Program. This was a transforming year in understanding how to truly integrate my faith into work, service, ministry and growing in my understanding of who God is. I have a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for the Raleigh Fellows, knowing what a year as a Fellow can do for a recent college graduate.
My husband Sam and I were married in September 1999 and have since been blessed with our three children, Jake, Beau and Molly. I enjoy spending lazy summer days as a family at the beach, having reunions with old friends, coffee with new friends, exercising, being outside, reading, dancing, traveling, photography, music, and trying new things.
We’ve been members of Apostles since 2005 and are grateful for the community of believers and our small group. I’m excited to be serving the Lord as the Raleigh Fellows Director here at Church of the Apostles. “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” Philemon 1:6
